70,401 declaration-area rows covering 5,264 federally declared disasters from 1953-05-02 to 2026-09-01: one row per designated county, parish, reservation or statewide area with disaster number, state and FIPS codes, FEMA region, declaration type (DR major disaster, EM emergency, FM fire management assistance), declaration date, 27 incident types (severe storm, hurricane, flood, fire, tornado, biological and more), incident begin and end dates, title, fiscal year and whether the Individuals and Households, Individual Assistance, Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation programmes were declared, from the OpenFEMA Disaster Declarations Summaries (v2) as of 2026-09-06.

Methodology

Paged fetch of the v2 DisasterDeclarationsSummaries endpoint (10,000 records a page, ordered by record id, explicit $select); timestamps reduced to ISO dates; de-duplicated on record id; sorted by declaration date, disaster number, state and county.

Update Schedule

Static snapshot. OpenFEMA refreshes the summaries as declarations are issued and amended, typically within a day; refresh weekly.

Source: Federal Emergency Management Agency, OpenFEMA Disaster Declarations Summaries v2 (fema.gov/openfema); US government work, public domain. FEMA and the federal government cannot vouch for the data or analyses derived from it after the data has been retrieved from OpenFEMA.
