FRED Trade, Current Account & Exchange Rates — 23 Census, BEA And Federal Reserve Series (Trade Balance, Exports, Imports, Current Account, H.10 Spot Rates, Dollar Indices), 1947–2026
119,109 observations across 23 US external-sector series from FRED: the monthly goods, services and total trade balance with exports and imports on a balance-of-payments basis (Census Bureau and BEA), the quarterly current-account and goods balances from the BEA international transactions accounts, quarterly NIPA exports, imports and net exports, daily Federal Reserve H.10 spot rates for the Chinese yuan, Canadian dollar, Mexican peso, Japanese yen, South Korean won, Indian rupee, Brazilian real, Swiss franc, British pound and euro, and the monthly nominal broad, advanced-foreign-economies and emerging-market-economies dollar indices. Methodology
One fredgraph.csv fetch per series; missing observations dropped; long format; trade and current-account balances in USD millions (seasonally adjusted), NIPA trade in USD billions at seasonally adjusted annual rates, spot rates as foreign currency per dollar except the pound and euro (dollars per unit), dollar indices January 2006=100; values rounded to six decimals.
Update Schedule
Static snapshot. Spot rates and dollar indices daily and monthly, the trade report about five weeks after the reference month, current account and NIPA quarterly; refresh weekly.
